Flash: How to Light Your Subject

Learn how to get the most out of your external flash unit. The class will help you understand the modes and functions of your flash, as well as how aperture, shutter speed and ISO affect your flash photos. From adjusting the power of the flash to choosing how to position the flash, this class will help you become more skilled when using your exernal flash unit. There are lots of ways you can use flash to light your subject. Should you fire the flash straight at the subject? Use fill flash? What about bouncing the light? How about using accessories to modify the light from the flash? We'll cover all these topics and more. By modifying the light from your flash you can control how you light your subject in a variety of situations. Lighting accessories that will be demonstrated include: diffusers, reflectors, soft boxes, umbrellas, gels and more. Many of these are made specifically for external flash units. This class will also introduce you to using your flash off camera. For photographing with the flash off camera we'll look at using a sync cord or triggering the flash wirelessly.
