In detail
Every week a lesson is emailed to you as a pdf document. The lessons contain illustrated examples, as well as an assignment. Since the lesson is emailed to you, you have the flexibility to read it at your convenience. Read the lesson on your computer or print it out to take it with you. Assignments will focus your attention on one aspect of the course material. You will have ten days to complete the assignment. After completing the assignment, select your photographs and submit them by email. Constructive feedback will be emailed to you about each of your photographs. These comments will highlight the strengths of your images as well as suggest how they can be improved. Receiving a critique of your work will help you to learn what makes a great photograph. Immediate feedback is one of the fastest ways to improve your photographs. Through these critiques, you will find out how to improve your image while it is still fresh in your mind. You can then apply what you've learned the next time you're out photographing.

Questions
Traveling? Busy with work? On vacation?
Not a problem, the lessons will always be waiting for you in your email. Assignments can also be sent in late for the critique. Just let us know you'll be missing a week; the online format allows some flexibility. We'll do our best to work with your schedule.

Do I have to submit new work for the critiques?
It's preferable that you create new photographs for each assignment. One of the purposes of courses is to motivate you to produce new images. Yet we understand that the critiques are very important and your schedule may not allow you the time to shoot new material.

Macro Photography delves into the intimate world of the details all around us. Almost anything can be a fascinating subject when you look closer. Textures, patterns and shapes pop out. Lines, space and balance take on greater significance; they become the primary elements in your composition. Macro gives you the ability to create an intimate portrait of a small subject, or an abstract image that loses all connection to reality. This course teaches you how to effectively use depth of field, control lighting and create simple yet compelling compositions. It's a whole new world when you work on the macro level! Corey will share the techniques he uses to turn details into photographic art. This course will benefit those starting to explore close-up photography as well as more experienced macro photographers.

Compact cameras should have the ability to focus down to 1-2 inches in the macro mode. SLR owners should have one of the following so you can get close to your subject: macro lens, extension tube(s) or screw-on close-up lens (diopter).

Topics covered include:
-Macro equipment options
-Maximizing depth of field
-Lighting: diffused, direct, backlight
-Patterns, lines and colors
-Simplifying compositions
